Photographic Lighting Workshop | Craig Schmidt, Master of Photography
We'll Discuss These Topics . . . .
The Goal of Proper Photographic Lighting The main objective of fine portrait lighting is to make a three-dimensional subject appear as such (3D) on a two-dimensional piece of paper through predictable and repeatable control of tone and value. This class helps the student discover the process. Lighting control is one of the most misunderstood and ignored elements of portrait photography. Yet grasping the simple basics of lighting you will position yourself miles ahead of the others by the demonstration of better quality, increased creativity, more freedom and overall satisfaction in your photographic work.

The Business of Professional Photography | Craig Schmidt, Master of Photography ![]() Go ahead. Do some research. VERY FEW good courses exist for the “Business of Photography”, and fewer still at this low price, and the ONLY ONE held live in Bismarck. There are LOTS of courses about how to use cameras, how to pose your subject, how to use Photoshop, even marketing and promotion. The reason? Students who take these classes are likely to buy the equipment that is used in the demonstrations, so those courses are often supported by the photography supply manufacturers and software vendors. But every studio owner MUST understand how to effectively run the business. This overview course will help you toward your goals. The main objective in operating a photography studio (or ANY business for that matter) is to make a fair profit while providing valuable and innovative products and services to clients. This class helps the student explore the challenges and sorts out the complex issues involved in the professional photography business. The principles discussed in this overview class were originally developed by a team of photography business consultants for the benefit of both new and seasoned studio owners to learn how to better manage their photography businesses for profit. This half day version of the original class discusses the “business side” of photography that is so often lacking in today’s education for photographers. This unique and crucial “hands-on” workshop discussing the “business of professional photography” will be held in a small group format so you can get the benefit of both asking your own questions, and feeding off the input of other students as well as the instructor. Modules will be explained step by step, so you can understand what is most important to you and your photo business. Professional Photographers have invested many hundreds of dollars to attend Craig’s business classes. Now is your opportunity to learn from an experienced photography business owner and instructor at a reduced price. Sign up NOW before the class fills up. This workshop is held over lunch hour and Craig likes to keep working over lunch so you can learn as much information as possible. You can bring your own sack lunch if you like, or we can each chip in a few bucks and order out for lunch. We'll decide as class begins. $149 Online Registration Discount -50 $ 99

Wedding Photography | Craig Schmidt, Master of Photography ![]() Most professional photographers agree that a Wedding is the most demanding of photography assignments. The main goal of this workshop is to discuss the elements of photographing your next wedding assignment. From the Bride’s anticipation in the dressing room, to the excitement and nervousness of the ceremony to the romantic first dance, Wedding Photography can be a lot of fun. In this class we’ll discuss numerous ideas so you can manage the day effectively
Topics Covered
PLUS! You’ll discover the one photography shot that Craig takes at a Wedding that sets him apart from the others. Now YOU CAN LEARN the photo techniques the pros use to photograph weddings. No more trying to read the book, watch the video or trying to guess what the photographer is trying to do. Here’s your chance to learn do-it-yourself techniques LIVE from a proven expert. Storytelling Weddings….Think about it, a professional Wedding photograph is often how we remember our parents or our grandparents. Even today, a formal portrait of the “Bride and Groom” is almost always taken at a wedding. But these days with so many digital cameras available, some of the finer points of taking that portrait have been lost in lieu of taking hundreds of so called “natural shots”. But when taken without basic skills, as a whole, most people’s photos are becoming less and less flattering.Weddings are a haven for stories, for fond memories and for close relationships. These are the things that money cannot buy yet I think we can all agree, they are the most valuable. It’s the job of the wedding photographer to capture in photographs the stories and relationships on a day that is often filled with tension and pressure. Furthermore, the photographer can help create fond memories that can absolutely make the wedding day for everyone involved. On the other hand, the photographer can unknowingly make the day a nightmare as well. Learn how to put things into perspective so your weddings are nothing but pleasant and exciting dreams. Limited Class Size, Book Early for discount. This workshop is held over lunch hour and Craig likes to keep lunch so you can learn as much information as possible. You can bring your own sack lunch if you like, or we can each chip in a few bucks and order out for lunch. We'll decide as class begins. $149 Online Registration Discount -50 $ 99
